POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Wastewater Operator is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a wastewater
treatment facility. The incumbent enforces plant and personnel safety by implementing procedures and providing training as directed by
management. The Lead Wastewater Operator ensures that pumps, blowers, vacuum equipment, ultrafilters, and other treatment systems
remain operational, and applies technical expertise to operate equipment when necessary.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Direct operations staff in the compliant treatment of landfill leachate.
• Supervise chemical and parts inventory to ensure compliance and availability of supplies.
• Maintain housekeeping of leachate handling/processing areas and ensure safe storage and handling of process chemicals.
• Promote a culture of safety by modeling safe practices and engaging staff in active participation.
• Coordinate with maintenance to ensure equipment remains operational and compliant with safety standards.
• Monitor equipment conditions continuously to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
• Perform and document minor equipment service; coordinate major repairs with third-party vendors.
• Recommend and implement process changes in collaboration with management and technical staff.
• Collect samples and perform routine laboratory testing in accordance with procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training or ability to pass class upon hire
• Knowledge of wastewater operations, equipment, and treatment processes.
• Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable safety standards.
• Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, stay focused, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Strong time management and follow-through skills.
• Ability to direct staff and provide training in operational procedures.]
