Overview

Field Chemist-Lab Packs at Customers' facility

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of all RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, OSHA and DOT rules and regulations governing the proper identification, transportation and disposal of waste materials.
• Assist customers, estimators and operations personnel with pre-pack/pre-consolidation for lab packs or waste consolidation projects.
• Sample containers, drums, totes, tankers and soil piles containing liquid, solid and/or sludge waste-related materials, in a safe and proper manner, in preparation for laboratory analysis or on-site testing.
• Perform fingerprint testing to assist in determining compatibility and/or proper DOT Hazard Class, for waste transport, consolidation, etc.
• Complete waste profile sheets, lab pack inventories, manifests, and all other related paperwork for proper transportation and disposal of discarded experimental chemicals, laboratory chemicals and/or off spec. commercial products.
• Inspect containers provided by generator to verify contents inside container meets the description as indicated on the Waste Profile Sheet.
• Properly seal, label and load materials onto appropriate vehicles in preparation for transportation.
• Review paperwork and estimate provided for a thorough understanding of job, health and safety needs, materials, manpower, equipment, etc, prior to starting project.
• Operate a 24 ft. box truck requiring a Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsement to transport containers of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
• Assist in laboratory to support Lab Manager with special projects.
• On call 24/7 to assist with emergency response spills and cleanups.
• Maintain an accident free work environment, while following all OSHA, RCRA and DOT rules and regulations.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or chemistry related field
  • 3 yrs Lab Pack experience
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills to effectively communicate with customers and supervisor
  • CDL Class A with HAZMAT endorsement PREFERRED
  • Physical labor
  • Overnight travel
